Russell Wayne Henson Sr., 76 of Petersburg, IN. went home to the Lord on Sunday July 12, 2026 while at Eastgate Manor in Washington, IN.
Russell was born September 1, 1949 in Pike County, he was the son of Charles and Ada (Hilborn) Henson.
He was retired from Whirlpool and INDOT. He attended the Petersburg Holiness Church. He was a good father, brother, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He would do anything to help anyone. If he had it, he gave it. He loved helping in the yard and around the house. He loved being outside doing anything really. If you were from Petersburg, you knew Russell. He was well known in Petersburg and well liked. A good friend to all that knew him. He will be well remembered.
He is survived by his ex-wife and friend Brenda Carter. His son Russell Wayne Henson Jr. and daughter-in-law Sheila Henson of Petersburg, IN. and their children Justin (Audri) Jones, Jade Ott, Jackson Ott, and the light of Russell’s world his grandson Jameson Rory Henson. You knew when Jameson was in the eye sight of Russell, because he would light up so bright with his eyes and smile. Daughter Mary Henson of Henderson, KY. Son Chad Henson and his children of Henderson, KY. He is also survived by his brother Raymond (Roberta) Mills, sisters Alberta, Betty, Doris, and Brenda (Carl) Abel. He had several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles, Billy Lee, James, Gary, Paul, Larry, sisters, Carolyn and Linda.
A celebration of Russell’s life will be held at a later date.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Eastgate Manor and St. Croix Hospice for the care, kindness and support they provided to Russell and all of us family during his final days.

When I must leave you for a little while-please do not grieve and shed wild tears and hug your sorrow to you through the years, but start out bravely with a gallant smile; and for my sake and in my name live on and do all things the same, feed not your loneliness on empty days, but fill each waking hour in useful ways, reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer and I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; and never, never be afraid to die for I am waiting for you in the sky!
