It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert M. “Big Bob” Loveless Jr., age 62, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, following a 4-month long battle with an aggressive form of colon cancer.
Bob was most recently a resident of Evansville, Indiana, but he spent most of his life in and around Oakland City, Indiana and Pike County, Indiana. He was born on October 23, 1963, in Princeton, Indiana to the late Robert Loveless Sr. and Joyce Loveless (Terry). Bob certainly lived up to his nickname, “Big Bob,” not only because of his stature, but because of his larger-than-life personality. Those who loved him most might say the name fit him best because he was, at heart, a big teddy bear.
Though Bob’s time with us was cut short, he lived a life filled with love, laughter, family, friends, and countless good times. A true “jack of all trades,” he could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Over the years, he held a variety of jobs, including working as a concrete truck driver, but he was most proud of earning his Class A CDL and working as an over-the-road truck driver. When he wasn’t tinkering or working on something, Bob enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, playing cards and dice, celebrating life’s moments, and sharing a cold beer with friends. In recent years, he was no longer able to experience the joy of riding, but he remained a proud member of ABATE of Indiana and an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast. Most recently, Bob found his greatest joy in spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren and his dogs, tinkering in the garage, tending to his tomato garden, and relaxing at home watching The Big Bang Theory with Amy.
Bob is survived by his loving girlfriend of over 15 years, Amy Babines; his daughter, Samantha (Aaron) Mays; and his two grandchildren, Xavier and Nora. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Lacey (Gavin) Matheis, and her children, Madison Peer and Jeremy (Danessa); his sisters, Joyce (David) Kimmel and Roberta (Jeff) Hill; and his aunt, Kay (Arlin) Bullock.
He is further survived by his nephews, Shane (Heather) Rembe, Justin (Vanessa) Rembe, Adam (Katy) Miller, Derek Miller, and Dennis Miller; his girlfriend’s children, Jessica Williams, Jason Williams, Justin Williams, and Kristina Niccum, along with their children; as well as several cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Last but certainly not least, Bob is survived by his deeply cherished “unbiological” family who always showed up: Darla Meyer-Smith, Tim and Paula Schwab, Terry Schmidt, and Clint and Julia Peer.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert M. Loveless Sr., mother Joyce Loveless, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved dogs Lucky and Diamond.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and staff at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital who cared for Bob over the years, and especially during his final days. Your compassion, dedication, and kindness meant more to our family than words can express.
We would like to offer special thanks to Krystia Farmer RN, Renee Massey RN, Dr. Devon Fetters, Dr. Bhasin, Dr. Casino, Dr. Ryan McGuire, Dr. Robert Rieti, Dr. John Rodrigues, and respiratory therapists Ashley, Kurt, Hope, Holly and Brian—just to name a few—who went above and beyond at various times throughout the past 12 years. Your exceptional care and support will never be forgotten.
Arrangements are being handled by Simple Cremation. A celebration of life will be planned for a later, warmer date.

I might not have known Bob very long, but the short time I have he has enriched my life. I so much enjoyed our time together just telling stories of younger years. He is definitely a “One of a Kind” ! I’m glad I got to celebrate his birthday with him and sing for him. I know he gladly enjoyed it. lol. He will be missed but his legend will live on with all his stories. I’m so very sorry for your loss Amy but you both will be reunited some day. Until that day comes whenever you need anything dont hesitate to call.
