Ray Keith Schloss passed from this earth into heaven on November 29th, 2025 in Evansville, Indiana. He was born May 8th, 1945 in Sullivan, MO. This year, he celebrated his 80th birthday with many friends and family.
Ray loved his family fiercely and took great pride in his roles as husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of over 62 years (Honna), his children (Michael, Tiffany, & Traci), his grandchildren (Sara, Kala, Matthew, Kristin, Mitchell, & Olivia), & 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents (Claude & Delphia) and his brother (Bill). In addition, Ray loved and deeply cared about the spouses of his children and grandchildren, his brothers and sisters in-law, and his nieces and nephews.
Ray was a fisherman at heart. He spent countless hours fishing with dear friends and family members. All of his grandchildren are known as “Papa’s fishing buddies.” He never lived to work, but worked to live and was always seeking an adventure including skydiving, bungee jumping, camping, and closing down an amusement park. Going out to eat and having a good meal were endearing passions. Ray loved to play cards, yahtzee, and bingo. He was quite a character who loved a good joke and never met a stranger.
Ray was an active member of the United Methodist Church and served his faith community in many ways including fulfilling the role of the preacher’s husband, leading youth trips, and discipling in a prison ministry.
Visitation will be held at Salem United Methodist church in Evansville, IN from 2 – 4 p.m. Saturday, December 6th. Memorial service to follow starting at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray’s memory can be sent to C.A.S.T. for Kids (https://castforkids.org/foundation/), Salem UMC (https://www.salemumcevv.org/donate), Field of Dreams-Uganda (https://www.fieldsofdreamsuganda.org/donate), or Midwest Mission (https://give.midwestmission.org/donate/give).
