
Mary Ruth Smith, 85, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away on the morning of June 29, 2025, in her home surrounded by family. Mary battled dementia for 13 years.
Mary was born on February 14, 1940, in Farmington, Missouri to the late John Calvin and Melba (Cook) Jones. She graduated from Central High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Mary married Donald Smith on December 19, 1964. She was self-employed for 30 years.
Mary will be remembered as a strong-willed woman who loved the Lord, showed kindness to everyone and had a heart full of goodness. She was a loving mom who put her family and others first. Mary loved spending time with family, playing games, and being silly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Nelda, and brothers John Jr. and Charles.
Mary is survived by her husband, Donald; children David, Monica (Brian) Butts; grandchildren Justin, Evan, Josh and Derik; and sister Joyce.
A public memorial service will not be held. Flowers may be sent to Donald Smith at 3613 Arbor Pointe Drive in Newburgh, IN 47630. Memorial contributions can be sent directly to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mary.
