Larry Richard (Dick) Meek
Resident of Evansville, Indiana
April 20, 1947 – April 7, 2025
Dick Meek — brother, father, grandfather, husband, professional “storyteller”, and gourmet home chef specializing in camping food and oyster dressing — died early Sunday, April 7, 2025.
Born in Columbus, Indiana to Mary Margaret Ricki and Woodrow Wilson Meek, Dick was THE middle child of five kids. In 1972, he married Vickie Meek, and together raised three kids in Noblesville, Indiana. He has seven grandchildren.
He had a lifelong love of pig’s knuckles and cabbage soup. His recipes required no measurements, he took fashion cues from no one, taught his kids the art of sarcasm, and would do anything for his grandkids.
A quiet giant who always put family first, Dick went OUT the way he lived his entire life — on his own terms. He made sure to say his goodbyes to his kids, his grandkids, his wife of 52 years, a priest, and then had a strawberry shortcake before closing his eyes…passing away peacefully in his sleep.
The family wants to extend a sincere thank you to all the nurses and caregivers at Deaconess Hospital Midtown who cared for Dick during his time there.
To honor Dick’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, the family invites you to a “Celebration of Life” on Thursday, April 17th from 3-6 pm upstairs at the COMFORT by the Cross-Eyed Cricket (230 Main Street, Evansville, IN 47708) — enter through doors left of the main entrance.
