Lana Denise DEan (maiden name Farrar) lived 73 years of laughter, tears, and an abundance of love. She and her husband, Rick, made their home outside Boonville, Indiana. On August 12, 2025, Lana was ushered into Eternity surrounded by family & friends at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, IN.
Born in southern Indiana on February 10, 1952 to Jim & Joyce Farrar, Lana graduated with the Class of 1970 from North Posey High School and was also considered an honorary graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. Though she never formally enrolled in college, she supported countless family & friends in their educational journeys – we believe she earned several degrees in spirit.
Lana held many careers and retired from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles; but her true calling was being a Wife, Momma, Aunt, Mammaw, Sister, Friend, and ministering for the Kingdom of God in every aspect of her life.
She cherished time with loved ones – fishing, going out to eat, grilling up delicious meals, or catching a movie at the theater or drive-in. She loved to read and napping, though she rarely sat still. Her spontaneous drives often led to “detours” which meant getting ice-cream. She delighted in making pumpkin bread, Christmas cookies, fudge, and candies. Lana was a gifted Bible teacher, praised the Lord through song, and served her community with joy.
Lana was a member of the Chrisney Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #357. She was a league bowler & softball pitcher and she enjoyed volleyball, badminton, and tennis. Her talents as a seamstress and floral designer graced proms, weddings, and church gatherings. She found peace in MOWING and gardening and she lit up game nights with cards and 10,000. She lived as a true partner to her soulmate Rick – where one was, the other was close behind. If you knew Lana, you were likely fed by her. Her table always had room for one more.
Lana is survived by her loving husband Rick DEan, her children James DEan and his wife Mary, Jason DEan and his wife Sarah, and Kelly Joh Shade and her husband Daniel, her grandchildren & great-grandchildren, her three sisters, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured loved ones she held as family in her heart.

Lana Dean was truly a gift and a joy to spend time with. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to know her and Ricky better after they returned to Robert Lee, TX briefly to help us with our land clearing business . Ricky and A.J.’Pete’ Roe are first cousins. She was blessed with many precious gifts from the Lord. Lana’s gift of truly listening to others was a rare gift. Her response was one of concern, help and often lead to laughter, smiles and always healing of some sort. Heaven is even sweeter than ever with her presence. Our prayers continue for Ricky, the children, the grands, extended family and friends. Love you all! Deone and Pete.
