LaDonna Sue (Stice) Douglas, age 74, of Haubstadt, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, at Heart to Heart Hospice Hospital, surrounded by her loving family after an 8 month battle with Bulbar ALS. LaDonna, lovingly called Donna, Mom, or Mammaw, was born on October 27, 1951 in Jackson, Michigan to Imogene (Long) Stice and CD Stice.
Donna married Earl Wayne Pickens on May 28,1971. They were married for 18 years and had two daughters, Kerri Sue and Kendra Lynn. Donna married Danny Douglas on February 24, 1995. They were the loves of each other’s lives and shared 28 beautiful years together. They lived in Charleston, IL, Mountain View, AR, and bought a warm getaway in Bonita Springs, FL. They did many things together including: riding Harley motorcycles, kayaking, biking, enjoying nature, and even built their own house in Mountview from the ground up.
Donna was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother. Her family was most important to her. She loved helping her kids in their daily lives, making improvements around their homes, shopping days, and lunches. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandson do the things they loved and being with them, it brought her the most joy.
Donna was a lifetime learner, despite not completing High School and earning a GED. She decided to pursue higher education in 1995 and earned her Associates of Applied Science from Lakeland College. This degree landed her a job at Vesuvius in Charleston, IL for 10 years working with CAD design and computers. Prior to that she had worked many jobs, learning new things and bettering herself along the way, including secretary, office manager, store owner, school bus driver, realtor, meter reader and lineman for CIPS Electric.
Donna was a creative: an artist, craftsman, and detailed perfectionist. She could do ANYTHING with her hands. She could draw, paint, craft, and sew. She could cook and decorate cakes. She loved antiques and restoring them. She was the best fix-it lady and jack of all trades. She could plumb, wire, use any type of power tool, lay tile flooring, drywall, landscape, and yardwork. She lived life to the fullest and never let anyone tell her it couldn’t be done, she would always show them.
Donna is survived by her daughters, Kerri (Lucas) Zeien of Evansville, IN. Kendra (Adam) Schmidt of Haubstadt, IN. Stepdaughter, Redana McClouth of Conway, SC, 10 grandchildren, Whitney (Brett Millikan) West, Lauren (Zach) Flowers, Gracie Schmidt, Adyn Schmidt, Madison Zeien, Lydia Schmidt, Reece McClouth, Adelyn Schmidt, Selah Schmidt, Liam Schmidt, and 1 great grandson, Vincent Flowers. Her sisters, Loretta (Paul) Esworthy and Elizabeth “Libby” (John) Redfern, her father CD Stice, her nephew Brian Stice, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband Danny Douglas, her mother Imogene Stice, her brother Steve Stice, her nephew Monte Ferguson, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be a brief graveside memorial at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL on Wednesday, May 27 at 2pm immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at the DeMars Center in Mattoon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice in Evansville, IN in honor of LaDonna Douglas.

What a spit fire she was❤️. I remember when I met her the first time, lots of talking and laughing as she rushed out the front door. She always made me feel welcomed and cared about. I have been blessed to call Kerri a dear friend and I can see easily where she has gotten so much of her talent from. Donna was just a beautiful soul and heaven gained a wonderful angle. So much love to all of you. Tia
