John Thomas “Johnny” Jones, a servant of God, loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 8, 2026, at the age of 76.
Johnny was born on October 18, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to Charles Thomas and Alice Leola (Cooper) Jones. Answering God’s call to ministry, Johnny faithfully pastored eight churches throughout his lifetime—two in Indiana and six in Texas—sharing the love of Christ and the truth of the Gospel with countless people.
In addition to his ministry, Johnny was a skilled craftsman who owned and operated his own remodeling and painting company. He found great satisfaction in woodworking, creating with his hands, and helping others through his talents and hard work.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Thomas and Alice Leola Jones, and hi granddaughter, Alizay.
He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his sister, Charlene Boggus and her husband, Tom, of Georgetown, Texas; his daughter, Michelle Swanson of Evansville, Indiana; his daughter, Elizabeth Brode and her husband, Derrick, of Harrington, Delaware; and his son, John Michael Jones of Houston, Texas. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Halie Brode, Christina Brode, Tajanea Jones, Giovani Villaloboz, Gift Jones, Messiah Jones, Reign Jones, and Korhi Jones.
Johnny’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Evansville Protestant Home and Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Special thanks are also extended to his dear friends Rich Brown, Bob Davis, Nickey and Sean Shell, and Jessica Shackelford for their faithful friendship and encouragement.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Southern Baptist Church, 25 S. Cullen Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47715.
Burial will take place at a later date at Holly Grove Cemetery, 503 County Line Road South, Livingston, Texas 77351.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Mission Dignity, a ministry that assists retired Southern Baptist pastors, widows, and church workers.
Though Johnny will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the promise of eternal life and takes comfort in knowing that he has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and is now at home with the Savior he faithfully served and proclaimed throughout his life.
