
TELL CITY – Joan Meadows, 85, passed away April 19, 2025, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand. Joan lived most of her life in Cincinnati, OH, and Sunman, IN. She moved to Tell City in 2017 to be closer to her son. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in medical technology, Joan worked for many years at Bethesda Hospital. She later transitioned to teaching high school chemistry after earning her master’s degree in science education. Joan excelled at singing, especially opera. She performed often with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as a member of the May Festival Choir. Joan participated in multiple musicals in Cincinnati and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. She also enjoyed painting, reading, animals, and nature.
Joan is survived by her daughter Holly Yurchison of South Carolina, and her son James “J.R.” (Sherri) Flynn of Tell City, IN. She had 6 grandchildren: Chris Bonn, Katie (Lawrence) Ortiz, Sara Yurchison, Suzi (Brian) Yurchison-Roy, Ben (Nicki) Yurchison, and Alex “A.J.” (Kelsey) Flynn. Joan also had 9 great-grandchildren. She was one of five girls born to James and Lyla Meadows of Oak Ridge, TN. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sister Emily Blake. Her surviving sisters are Amy (Doyle) Cole, Carol Teague, and Sue (John) Rupf.
