Jane Ann Wells, beloved wife, mother, Nene, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in April 1951, Jane lived a life defined by faith, compassion, service, and an unwavering devotion to her family. She was the devoted wife of Ronnie Wells, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jane’s greatest joy was her family. Affectionately known as “Nene,” she treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, creating memories and traditions that will be carried forward for generations. Her home was a place of warmth, love, laughter, and unwavering support for those she held dear.
For 22 years, Jane faithfully served the students, staff, and families of Evansville Lutheran School as a lunch lady. Her warm smile, caring heart, and dedication to the children she served left a lasting impression on countless lives. She was much more than a member of the school staff—she was a source of comfort, encouragement, and kindness to all who knew her.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Jane was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church. She generously shared her time and talents through the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), Vacation Bible School, the church prayer chain, and the choir, while also participating in many other ministries and activities throughout the congregation. Her faith guided her throughout her life and was reflected in her service to others, her generosity, and the love she shared with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard “Woody” Stansberry and Meraloyd Stansberry, and her brother, Howard Riley Stansberry.
Jane is survived by her loving husband, Ronnie Wells; her daughters, Sara (Pastor Keith) Knea of Saginaw, Michigan, and Heather (Tom) Kough of Evansville, Indiana; her beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joshua, Joseph, and Jesse Knea, Jacob (Allison) Kough, and Elijah Kough; along with many nieces and nephews; as well as extended family members, dear friends, and her church family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Linda E. White Hospice House for the compassionate and loving care they provided to Jane during her final days. Their kindness, dignity, and support brought great comfort to both Jane and her family and will always be remembered.
Contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to Evansville Lutheran School in honor of her 22 years of faithful service to the students and families she so dearly loved.
Family and friends are invited to gather in fellowship and remembrance at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2451 Stringtown Road, Evansville, Indiana, on Wednesday, June 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, June 18, from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor David Wiist.
Though she will be deeply missed, Jane’s family finds comfort in knowing that she rests in the eternal peace of her Savior.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
