Jack has rounded the final turn at the track and crossed the finish line. Everyone who bet on him was a winner.
Jack E. Davis, age 87, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 with family by his side. Born October 19, 1938.
Jack couldn’t walk into a room without someone knowing him. They may have known him from serving in the U.S. Army during the Korea era. It may have been his 30-year career as an Ironworker with the Local 103 or even from the years he worked with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department. On the West Side, odds are they knew him from graduating with the Reitz High School Class of 1957, his lifetime membership at River Bend where he was a past president or from his 36 year tenure with the West Side Nut Club. And for those who loved the ponies like he did, all bets are on his routine trips to Ellis Park.
He loved being around water, whether it was fishing for crappies with his brother on Kentucky Lake or riding the waves with his kids and grandkids in the ocean at Ormond Beach. Even the view from his front porch overlooked the Ohio River where he would sit and play Scrabble with the love of his life, Candy, who reminded him of her high scores for 51 years.
He hit a trifecta with the love of his family, his friends and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved to play rummy with his buddies and made the best homemade ice cream in town.
Jack is survived by his wife, Candice (Southwood) Davis. His daughter, Rhonda (Reggie) Eastwood, and her children, Skyler (Breigh) Davis and Amanda Dossett. His son, Jack (Mary) Davis and his children, Carole, Ethan and Jacob Davis. His daughter, Kendall (Jay) Paul and their children, Addison Paul (Kallie) and Mason Paul.
Great grandchildren, Jayla, Lily and Khloe Eastwood and Eli and Carson Davis along with many more grandchildren and great grandchildren through marriages.
He is preceded in death by his parents Richard (Sr.) and Maddie Davis, his brothers James, John, and Richard (Jr.) Davis and sisters Rose Mckee, Gertrude Scott and Betty Hammers.
Donations can be made in his honor at the Vanderburgh Humane Society (vhslifesaver.org) or you could go put $2 on the longshot in the 8th at the track.
Per Jack’s request, there will be no public service, but his family will take his ashes to Ormond Beach, FL, so he can continue to ride those waves.
