Herschel Stephen “Steve” Burnes, 75, of Cynthiana, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Steve was born on August 3, 1949, in Princeton, Indiana, to the late Herschel Burnes and Elva (Burnes) Nixon. He was preceded in death by his brother Ronnie Burnes (Cathy) and his sister Cheryl (Burnes) Mason (Kent).
He is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa (Eaden) Burnes. Steve and Teresa were married in 2013 and shared a home in Cynthiana, where they built a life full of love and laughter. He is also survived by his twin daughters, Carla Burnes and Crystal Burnes, and his cherished grandchildren Zachary Burnes, Madelynn Burnes, Trenton Burnes, and Katie Burnes.
Steve leaves behind his brother Kenneth Burnes (Sandy), and his extended family through Teresa, including stepchildren Jamie Braun (Andy), Josh Eaden (Amanda), and Jeremy Eaden (Whitney), and step-grandchildren Alanna Braun, Katryna Braun, Kendrick Eaden, and Jaxton Eaden.
A skilled general contractor by trade, Steve was a true craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands. In his free time, he found joy in fishing, boating, mushroom hunting, and tinkering on anything he could take apart and rebuild. He had a playful, goofy spirit and brought smiles and laughter to everyone who knew him.
Steve will be remembered for his humor, his kind heart, and his deep love for his family and the simple pleasures in life.
To honor Steve’s wishes, there will be no public services or ceremonies.
