George Thomas Smith, 69, of Princeton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, at Gateway Hospital. Born on September 9, 1957, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to George W. Smith and Ruby Alsip, George lived a life marked by love, laughter, and simple joys.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, brother, and friend—someone who made others feel seen, welcomed, and valued. George enjoyed the everyday pleasures that became part of his identity: collecting Hot Wheels, watching westerns, playing cards with family and friends, and cheering on his favorite wrestling matches. These small joys painted the picture of a man who found happiness in the moments that brought people together. George also spent many years working as an electrician, a career he took pride in before retiring.
A defining chapter of George’s life began on November 5, 2023, when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of The Pathway Church. His faith brought him peace, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose. His testimony stands as a reminder that God’s grace meets us at every stage of life.
George is survived by his children, Mariah Ettleman (Isaiah), G.T. Smith (Brittany Gilford), Brandon Smith, and Adam Lee Carter; his grandchildren, William Smith, Abigail Smith, Breanna Smith, Ely Horner, Hunter Horner, Jackson Horner, Maxwell Horner, Abbi Hobbs, and Bentley Gilford; and his great‑grandchildren, Wristyn Smith and Kora Hartman. He is also survived by his siblings, Harold Decker, Debbie Hayes, Allen Smith, and Lee Turner. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Maxine Smith, his sister Sue Beel, and his brother Danny Smith.
Though his passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, George’s legacy lives on in the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the love he gave so freely. His family rests in the hope of his faith—knowing he is now in the presence of the Savior he chose to follow.
He will be deeply missed, remembered always, and forever loved.
Celebration of Life
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hazleton Community Center on October 17, 2026, from 12:00–4:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Bill Horner and Pastor Wayne Wester.
