Gary Walker, 84, of Huntingburg, Ind., passed away peacefully on Aug. 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Gary was a strong and hardworking man who never met a stranger or trusted a politician. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army and went on to live a life marked by purpose, loyalty, and a relentless work ethic.
Over the years, Gary held many careers that reflected his wide range of skills and dedication to serving others. He worked as a sheriff’s deputy, a welding instructor, a welding superintendent, and a mechanic, not to mention a self-proclaimed grill master. But of all his roles, he was most proud of being an iron worker—a trade he poured his heart into, and one that stood as a symbol of his strength, resilience, and craftsmanship.
Outside of work, Gary loved to fish and visit with friends. He had a gift for conversation and made everyone feel welcome. Whether he was swapping stories on the porch or casting a line on the water, Gary found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Above all, Gary was a family man who taught his children the importance of responsibility and hard work, not just through words, but by example. He was more than a father—he was a daily presence, a steady guide, and a best friend.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his children: Dave of Rensselaer, Ind., Bill of Huntingburg, Ind., and Garilyn Bailey of Belle Chase, La.; his grandchildren: Katelyn, David, Jake, Nikki, Chris, and Kyle; and his great-grandchildren: Noah, Hudson, and Emilee. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara; brothers, Vern and Andy Jay; and countless nieces and nephews who loved and admired him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vera; father, Gilbert: stepfather, Andy; his brothers: Harry, Tony, Jim, Ralph, and John; and his sister, Nancy.
Services are currently pending and will be announced at a later date.
Gary’s legacy of strength, kindness, service, and unwavering love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

I found this man looking for a high school football player with the same name, my condolences to this absolute champion. I believe with every fiber of my being he was THE grill master of Indiana.
