Edward “Ed” L. Kays
February 23, 1958 – July 26, 2025
Edward “Ed” L. Kays, 67, of Princeton, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home in his favorite recliner after a lengthy illness, on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
Ed was born in Greencastle, IN on February 23, 1958. He was adopted in 1966 by the late Leslie and Madeline Kays who raised him in Princeton, IN. He graduated from Princeton Community H.S. in 1976. Ed served in US Army as a Private in 1976. He was skilled as a Marksman (M-16) and Expert (Hand Grenade). He was honorably discharged due to injury.
He married Joyce L. Richburg, from Albany, NY, on November 9, 1985. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Stephanie Kays, grandson Lucas Carder, Aunt Patricia Tressell, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and countless friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Teresa.
Ed was a loving and devoted husband, father and Papa. He truly enjoyed time spent with his family but especially with Lucas.
Ed loved the outdoors and thrived on being active. He enjoyed biking both on and off roads, hiking, running and completed several triathlons. He especially loved playing golf. His hobbies also included bike maintenance and home renovations.
He worked in telecommunications for 35+ years, several of those years running his own company “EJS Communications”.
Ed was a strong willed and determined man in all aspects of his life and will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have known him.
A funeral mass and bereavement reception will be held beginning at 10 AM on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Family and friends may gather to honor and remember the incredible man he was at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 S. Race St, Princeton, IN.

Joyce, Stephanie and Lucas, we can’t believe Ed is gone. How can this be. He was so full of life and seemed like he wanted to do it all. Always so active when he was healthy.
