Donald Ray Simpson, 79, of Newburgh, IN, passed away on May 26, 2025, at Majestic Care of Newburgh. He was born to the late Lewis and Thelma (Kiefer) Simpson on April 10, 1946, in Cynthiana, IN.
Donald served his country on active duty in the Navy from 1964 to 1967 as an engineer on the USS Georgetown and electrician on USS Vulcan. Don worked in the plastics industry in the Evansville area. After retirement, Don could not stop being active so he continued working as a security guard at local banks and businesses. When not working, Don enjoyed spending time with friends and family, loved gardening and fishing, but most of all, loved his dog, Baby. Don was an avid fisherman who could spin some tall tales. Don was a good guy who never met a stranger and always willing to help a friend.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Charles O. Simpson.
Don is survived by his two children, daughter, Donna (Tim) Vick of Camden, TN and a son, Dan (Kelly) Simpson of Fort Branch, IN; brothers, Austin (Judy) Simpson of Alton, Virginia and David (Tammy) Simpson of Kevil, KY; grandchildren, Christian Vick, Melanie (Derek) Hartweck, Olivia (Chance) Key, and Bryce Simpson; and great grandchildren, Leyah and Waylon Key. Along with much beloved nieces and nephew.
Per request, Simple Cremation of Evansville is handling arrangements, and the family will have a private Celebration of Don’s Life in July. Donations in Memory of Donald Simpson may be made to your local VFW or VFW.org.
