Delores Kaye Young, 75, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on September 14, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. She was born August 25, 1951, to Ray and Vera Riggs.
Delores was a loving and kind woman whose life was deeply rooted in her faith and devotion to those she loved. She loved her children fiercely and especially cherished holidays when they could all be together under one roof, sharing a meal and making memories. Some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by those closest to her—cooking for everyone, gathering around the table, playing dominoes and Phase 10, singing, and listening to her son sing.
Her faith in God was a cornerstone of her life. Delores read her Bible every day and trusted deeply in the Lord through both the joys and challenges she faced. A survivor of multiple cancers, she faced those battles with remarkable strength and always gave the glory to God. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life and was a source of strength, comfort, and hope.
Delores also had a special place in her heart for her three Chihuahuas, Squeaky, Twinkie, and Binkie, who brought her companionship and joy.
Delores is survived by her three children, Laquita “Susie” McCarty, Kimberly (James) Fleeger, and Kevin (Amy) McCarty; her grandchildren, Ronnie (Parker) Steinhoff, Kylene Fleeger, Gavin McCarty, and Allison McCarty; and many nieces and nephews, including her niece Darlene (Roger) Barnett, whom Delores loved like a daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Vera Riggs; her husband, James Young; her former husbands, Ricky Wyatt and Rudy McCarty; her grandson, Cody Lloyd; her sisters, Louise Gunn, Barbara Riggs, and Donna Ashby; and her brother, Butch Ricks.
Delores will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her kindness, remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and the fierce love she gave throughout her life. Her memory will live on in holidays spent together, meals shared around the table, games and songs, laughter, cherished memories, and the faith in God that guided her throughout her life.
A private memorial service will be held on November 7, 2026, at her daughter’s home, where loved ones will gather to celebrate Delores’s life and the memories they shared with her.

My heart goes out to each one of you. I am remembering on Hall Street when you were a block up from me.
I remember being out in that little side yard next to your house. I was young so it seemed like a big area but I know it wasn’t. I remember sitting out in the street in a circle all of the “gang” were there telling ghost stories and just whatever? Down in Ronnies basement there was music and a place to hang out. We had softball games in our yard, laps around the block and I believe we sat up in a loft of somesort being kids? I am thinking it was your house we were at? I am not sure, kind of cloudy in my mind now.
What I am saying is its the littlest of things in that time I think of that take me back to the best memories I will ever have. You and Susie will always have that special place in my heart reserved for you two.
