Charles William “Bill” Crider, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on October 31, 2026, at Linda E. White Hospice House following complications from pneumonia. He was 83 years old, having celebrated his birthday just one day before his passing.
Bill lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, kindness, and a wonderful sense of humor. He was known for his kind soul, easygoing nature, and laid-back personality. He had a way of making people smile and never took life too seriously. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, his humor, and the warmth he brought to the people around him.
In 1968, Bill proudly joined the United States Army. He dedicated many years of service to his country, retiring in 2003 as a Staff Sergeant with the 163rd. His military service was an important part of his life and reflected his commitment, dedication, and strong work ethic.
Bill began his civilian career as a surveyor in Florida. In 1977, he moved to Indiana, where he continued his hardworking ways as a Potroom Operator at Alcoa until his retirement. Throughout his working years, Bill took pride in his work and was known for his dedication and willingness to give his best.
When he wasn’t working, Bill enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching westerns, putting together puzzles, and spending time golfing. These hobbies, along with his easygoing personality and sense of humor, were just a few of the things that made him special.
Above all, Bill leaves behind a family who loved him dearly. He is survived by his brother, Bruce Crider; his significant other, Gwendolyn Buckner; his daughters, DeAnn Schmitt and Michelle Crider; his grandchildren, Dylan, Logan, and Savana; and his great-grandchildren, Noelle, Riley, and Ares.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pauline Crider; his brothers, Paul and Bob; and his sisters, Sue, Georgia, and Ruth.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, laughter, and love. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, his laid-back ways, his sense of humor, and the simple but meaningful impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on through the family and friends who loved him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Linda E. White Hospice House, Shauntrece Deters, FNP, NP-C, at Deaconess, and everyone who offered prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness, care, and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
Bill’s life was one of service, hard work, and quiet kindness. Though his time here has come to an end, the love he shared, the laughter he brought, and the memories he leaves behind will remain forever. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Michelle Crider says
I am so sorry for everyone’s loss! I wish that I could have been there to see him again. I will always remember the times we talked on the phone and laughed. I love you Dad and will see you again someday in heaven.
