Brian Eugene Suttles, known by his family as “Corky,” age 68, of New Harmony, Indiana, was officially called Home by Jesus on February 6, 2026. Born on March 17, 1957, to Doyle Eugene Suttles and Mable Aljean Choate (Moore), Brian spent his life doing things his way, usually with a grin and a joke.
Brian loved Jesus, his family, his friends, his caregivers, hunting, fishing, motorcycles, old cars, and Dr. Pepper.
He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1976, served in the U.S. Army, and then dedicated 21 years of service to the Posey County Jail. Brian was known for his take-no-nonsense presence and the unspoken understanding that if things got serious, he had it handled.
As his illness progressed, Brian spent plenty of time with doctors, but none as faithfully as Dr. Pepper, who stayed loyally by his side to the very end.
Brian’s faith was steady and genuine. He trusted God throughout his illness and survived many close calls so serious that even doctors called them miraculous. We’re confident he has already asked God two very important questions: Where are the motorcycles and is there any Dr. Pepper here?
Brian was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Eual Choate; stepmother, Linda Suttles; his son, Gregory Suttles; and granddaughter, Micah Newcomb.
Left to carry on his humor and stories are his wife of 40 years, Loretta “Janie” Suttles; children Nicholas Suttles (Staci), Camilla Hale (Joseph), and Briana Newcomb (Jerod); stepson Donald Gatewood (Jeanette); and bonus daughter Amy Kissel (Nick).
Grandchildren: Brian, Pearl, Izabel, and Braydon Suttles; Jetta and Trinity Hale; Trace, Waylon, and Benett Newcomb; Aaron and Julian Gatewood; and Kiona, Christnie, and Kaylin Kissel.
Brothers Bobby Harris, Danny, Shannon, and Stanley Choate; his sister Regina; Aunt Sharon Fry and Uncle Garry Moore. Numerous Nieces; Nephews; and Cousins; special friends Shiann Stevens (Jutter) and Kendra Bryant.
Brian will be remembered for his willingness to fight no matter how hard life got, his ability to make anyone laugh, the unforgettable way he was unapologetically himself, and all his Corky-ness.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Premier Healthcare of New Harmony, AseraCare Hospice, his doctors, and American Thunder of Indiana for their care, compassion, and support.
Services: Celebration of Life: Saturday, February 28, in Campbell, Missouri.
Formal Memorial Service: Sunday, March 1, at 3:30 p.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God, New Harmony, Indiana. Visitation begins at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Pastor Kevin Morris officiating.
