R. Douglas Hornbrook, lovingly known as “Doug,” was born in 1960 in Evansville, Indiana. He was a 1979 graduate of Reitz High School.
Doug was the devoted husband of Linda for 36 years and a proud father of four children: Rachel (Eric), Wade (Katy), Jake (Alaina), and Sammie (Darrell). His greatest legacy was his family, which continued to grow with the addition of his nine grandchildren: Grace, Eliza, Scarlett, Norah, Olive, Salem, Hazel, Jameson, and Rowan.
Doug retired from Ironworkers Local 103 after years of hard work and dedication.
When he wasn’t working, Doug enjoyed NASCAR, hunting, and riding around on his tractor. He was a fan of John Wayne and Dale Earnhardt, and surprisingly, even after claiming he hated going to work, he enjoyed coming home and watching videos of other people working.
Doug had a personality that was impossible to forget. He especially loved stirring the pot, pushing people’s buttons, and aggravating his family just to see how big of a reaction he could get. He was a master at getting under everyone’s skin, and if he could get you worked up, you could bet he was enjoying every minute of it. Those moments, as frustrating as they sometimes were, will undoubtedly become some of the memories his family smiles about most.
Doug didn’t want anyone to be sad about his passing. Instead, he wanted his life to be celebrated. In keeping with his wishes, his family will honor him with a private celebration of life at a later date.
Though he may no longer be here to stir things up, his humor, stubborn spirit, and the memories he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten
