Mary Jo (Goins) Wantland

Mary Jo (Goins) Wantland, 82, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family on September 20th, 2026.

Mary Jo graduated from Shawnee High School in Louisville KY and attended Western Kentucky University. She was an extraordinary wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for her family and friends.

Her past time was spent doing crossword puzzles and playing cards with her family. She loved listening to gospel music, especially the Gaither Family. She enjoyed watching the many cardinals in her yard and laughing at old sitcoms.

Mary Jo is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh A. Wantland. Her parents, Father, Arthur Dana Goins and Mother, Mellie.

Survived by her sons, Sam Wantland and wife, Tiffany, of Scottsburgh, IN. Denny Wantland and wife Debbie, of Pittsboro, IN. And daughter, Dana Wantland and partner, John Jones of Newburgh, IN.

Her grandsons, David Wantland and wife Katherine of Evansville, IN. and Tyler Woods, of Scottsburgh, IN.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses of Enhabit Hospice for keeping Mary Jo comfortable and treating the family with such kindness.

Mary Jo will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, KY. There will be a Celebration of Life at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Ave. Louisville KY. On Saturday October 10th, from 12pm until 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
