Dennis Dwayne Talley

Dennis Dwayne Talley, 71, of Henderson, Kentucky passed peacefully on September 21, 2026, with his beloved wife, Cathy and his children by his side.

Dwayne was born on July 27, 1955, in Henderson, Kentucky, to Bobby Wayne and Barbara “Ace” Talley.  He graduated from Henderson County High School in 1973.

Dennis lived a life that was anything but ordinary.  Known affectionately to his extended family as “Tugboat” he began his career on the river at age 19.  On July 15, 1980, he officially became a pilot where he would spend the next four decades until he retired in 2022 for medical reasons.

Although the river was an important part of Dwayne’s life, it was only one part of the man he was.  He had a flamboyant personality and wicked sense of humor that kept people laughing and often caught them completely off guard.  Dwayne lived life on his own terms and was never afraid to let his personality shine.

He loved music, especially the old rock and roll and enjoyed playing the guitar.  He was also an avid motorcyclist who rode for many years and continued to enjoy his motorcycles until his illness eventually made it impossible. Dwayne was a Third-Degree Mason and a member of the Rizpah Shriners.

Above all, Dwayne loved his family. He especially cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  They held a special place in his heart and brought him tremendous joy.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Schriefer Russelburg; his brothers, Darrell Talley (Deana) and Danny Talley (Angela), his sister, Donna Madden; his children Rachel Talley, Derek Talley, Aaron Talley (Whitney), Sam Talley (Jennifer), Chris Russelburg and Chelsea Russelburg; nine grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Wayne and Barbara “Ace” Talley and brother-in-law Eddie Madden.

Dwayne’s life was defined by family, hard work, the river, and the people he loved.  He will be remembered, missed and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 at Thomason Barbeque Banquet Hall in Henderson, Kentucky.  Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories, stories, laughter and love in remembrance of Dwayne.
