Randy E. Merrick, 83, of Evansville, passed away on September 11, 2026, at the Linda E. White Hospice House with his loving wife Tracey by his side. Randy was born on June 23, 1943, in Henderson, KY, and was the son of Elbert and Janette (Kinney) Merrick.
Randy graduated from Henderson County High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Evansville. He was an offensive guard lineman on the UE football team and had many fond memories of games, maintaining lifelong friendships with former teammates and coaches.
Randy’s career was spent primarily in the automotive, utilities, and power‑generation industries, working on major and large‑scale capital construction projects. Tracey was able to travel with Randy on many of these jobs, and together they made countless memories and friends while living in the East Bay of San Francisco; Lexington, KY; Noblesville, IN; and Madison and Gallatin, TN, before returning to Evansville in 1998.
He loved boating on Barkley Lake, watching University of Kentucky basketball, bowling, and playing tennis until his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease in 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gregg K. Merrick. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Tracey (McAllister) Merrick; his sister, Norma Jo Smith (Jerry) ; daughters, Amy Merrick and Megan Ramos‑Merrick; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved very much.
Simple Cremations is handling arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Randy always asked that his friends remember him as “ONE FUNNY DUDE.” So if you’re reading this, please think happy memories of him.
In honor of Randy’s life, memorial contributions may be made to the Linda E. White Hospice House or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
