It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald R. Thompson, fondly known to many as Duke, on May 31, 2026. Duke was a cherished father, brother, and friend who left this world of natural causes at the age of 68. Born on November 2, 1957, in the welcoming embrace of Evansville, Indiana, Duke lived a life full of love, laughter, and late-night grilling adventures.
Duke retired from AmeriQual Food in 2020 and was the beloved son of Jerry and Linda Thompson, who instilled in him the values of kindness, integrity, and a tireless work ethic. He carried forward their legacy with grace and dignity, forever cherishing the memories of his parents, who predeceased him, along with his wife Patricia Thompson and his dear sister, Pamela Galloway. In his youth, Duke was known for his adventurous spirit and infectious smile, traits that would remain with him throughout his life.
Duke’s journey was marked by his dedication to his family and his unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He is survived by his two children, Jason Thompson and Hollie Thompson and many grandchildren and one great grandchild. Duke’s pride in his children was evident in every conversation.
In addition to his children, Duke is survived by his brother, William Thompson, with whom he shared a bond that transcended the ordinary bounds of siblinghood. Their relationship was filled with shared memories of late-night fires, cooking, adult camaraderie and cleaning the house before mom and dad came home.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Duke’s remarkable life, as per the family’s wishes. Though the gathering will be intimate, the memories of Duke will echo in the hearts of many.
As we bid farewell to Duke, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man who not only embraced the world but improved it through his kindness and dedication. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice, in honor of Duke.
Rest in peace, Duke. Your legacy of love and laughter will remain forever in our hearts, a guiding light to those who knew and loved you.
