Ruth Elizabeth (Crider) Boyd, age 91, peacefully entered the arms of her Savior on March 16, 2026, in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. After a recent diagnosis of cancer, Ruth chose to embrace her final days with comfort, quality of life, and dignity, trusting in God’s provision as she prepared to meet her precious Jesus.
Born on November 24, 1934, in Evansville, Indiana, Ruth was the cherished daughter of James R. and Pauline G. Crider. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. Her work career began at American News Company, where she bundled newspapers. Her journey continued as a PBX operator at Hotel McCurdy, and later, she devoted her time as a caregiver, bringing comfort and companionship to patients in the hospital.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Boyd, her “sweetheart,” as well as her parents and siblings: Georgia Mitchell, Virginia Sue Brown, James R. Crider Jr., and Paul E. Crider.
Ruth was a treasured member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church, where her life radiated the love and faith of Jesus’s disciples. She exuded kindness and compassion, nurturing all who crossed her path with warmth and understanding. Though she did not have children of her own, Ruth mothered many, imparting lessons of love, faith, and the importance of compassion.
Ruth found joy in singing for the Lord, listening to Christian music, and watching birds. Her unique expression of love was often encapsulated in her words, “They needed it more than me,” reflecting her selflessness and generosity. She had a fondness for lemon and cinnamon bread, ketchup on everything, and a favorite Captain D’s fish sandwich.
She is survived by her brothers, Charles Crider (Gwen) and Bruce Crider Sr. (Julie), both of Evansville, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Among those who will carry her memory are Paulette Suddeth (Terry), Scarlett George, Donn Brown (Angie), Deann Schmidt, Shauntrece Deters (Hans), Tiffany Harvey (Ken), Bruce Crider Jr., Melody Ankers and Kay Boyd) Lincoln.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on March 30, 2026, from 1PM to 3PM at Christ Temple Apostolic Church, located at 1401S. Weinbach, Evansville, IN. Pastor Bill Thomas will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice, the staff at Solarbron assisted living, especially Nurse Amy, Nurse Cindy, and all the techs, particularly Erica, for their compassionate care during Ruth’s final days.
We will cherish the memories we shared and the invaluable lessons she imparted. Ruth’s spirit will forever guide us, a shining light in our lives. Rest in peace, dear Ruth; you will always be in our hearts.
