John Bauer, 69, of Evansville, Indiana passed away February 14, 2026, Valentine’s Day, surrounded by love.
He was a man of strength, resilience, and quiet determination. A lifelong hunter and outdoorsman, he found peace in the woods and carried that same steady spirit throughout his life. 43 years ago, John’s life changed when he fell from a tree in an accident that left him in a wheelchair, but he never allowed that moment to define him. He never gave up; his perseverance was unmatched and his strength inspired everyone who knew him. John was one of the strongest and smartest man you could ever meet with striking blue eyes that reflected both toughness and kindness. John was honest, hardworking, and dependable. He was a man you could always count on. His love for the outdoors ran deep. He loved spending time at Yellowbanks. He felt most at peace with nature.
John treasured his lifelong friendships with Bill Rosenberg and Keith Nemer. They shared countless memories of going to the Indy 500, watching the boat races, and flying in Bill’s plane. John was a friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Above all he was a proud father, his son Julian Bauer, who was his pride and joy, and nothing meant more to him than his family. He taught Julian how to drive, how to fish, how to cook, how to ride a bike, how to read and write, and most importantly how to be strong and never quit.
John is survived by his son Julian Bauer; Julian’s mother Julie Deken; his brother Roger Bauer (Kathleen); sister Elizabeth Terry; brother Robert Bauer; wife Karen Bauer, and their son, Jody Bauer; and daughter Shelby Winger (Josh).
John’s Legacy is one of resilience, love, loyalty and unwavering determination. Although he is no longer with us, we find comfort knowing he is now hunting in heaven, free and at peace.
A private service will be held for family and close friends.
