Phyllis Gibson

Phyllis Gibson, 82, passed away peacefully at home with her devoted daughter Shelby Greathouse by her side. Phyllis was born on September 27, 1943, to Mildred and Lincoln Zoph.

Throughout her life, Phyllis worked hard and cared deeply for others. She spent many years as a bartender and waitress at The Peerless, where she made countless friends and memories, and later served as a nurse’s aide at several nursing homes, providing compassion and comfort to those in need.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was the proud mother of Sandy and Larry Wilson, Jerry and Lisa Mattingly, Kathy and Charles Brooks, Terry and Tina Friend, and Shelby Greathouse and her spouse Chris, who lovingly cared for her and never left her side. Phyllis also shared her heart and home with her beloved dog, Wego.

Phyllis is survived by her sister Ethel Sue Grady, her many grandchildren — including Tony Ray Mattingly Jr., Billy Mattingly, Bitina Gross, Ashley Brumbeloe, Amber Brumbeloe, Mike Kneer, Amy Weightman, Amanda Redman, Brooke Arnold, Crystal Ward, Sara Ward, and James “Little Man” Ward — and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who adored her.

She was preceded in death by her sons Tony Mattingly and Billy Mattingly, her sister Clara Douthit, and her brothers Edward and Bob Zoph.

Phyllis was blessed with many dear friends who brought joy and companionship to her life, including Steve Loehr, Carol Redman, Kathy Redman, Ernie Jones, Joyce Myers, and her dearest friend David McCarty. The family also wishes to thank all those who came to celebrate her 82nd birthday, a day filled with love and laughter.

Phyllis will be remembered for her strength, humor, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends. Her love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
