Vera May Lord, 80, of Henderson, whose life was filled with faith and a deep love for her family, entered her eternal rest on October 5th, 2025.
Vera was born on January 25th, 1945, to Eula and Ulus Gunn.
Vera was truly the most beautiful soul, inside and out. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and grace. A God-fearing woman, she built her days around prayer, worship, and the steadfast belief that the Lord guides every step. Vera was a proud Salvation Army bell ringer and collector alongside her mother for many years.
She loved her family deeply and selflessly, pouring her heart into every moment spent with them. To her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her, she was a source of unwavering support, wisdom, and unconditional love.
A gifted spirit, Vera loved to sing and write poetry. Her voice carried both joy and reverence, lifting others in worship and song. Her words, woven into poems, captured beauty, faith, and love in ways that will remain with us forever.
Besides her name Vera, her two favorite titles were Mother (Mom) and Granny. She carried those titles with immense pride.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find peace knowing she has been welcomed into eternal rest, reunited with loved ones who went before her, and embraced by her Savior.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith, creativity, and love that will forever guide those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her Parents Eula and Ulus Gunn; Ex-husband James Harold Lord; Daughter Angela Carol Thomas; Siblings Ulus Gunn Jr., Laura Gunn, Sara Littrell, Clarence Denton, Guy Gunn, James Gunn, Geneva Gunn McReynolds, Walter (Bud) Gunn, Lilly Gunn Bower Laura O’Bryant and Ernest Samson Jr.; and great-grandson Jordyn Lord.
She is survived by her son, James (Jimmy) Lord, of Evansville, IN, and her daughter, Darla (Daniel) Lord of Henderson. Vera was also the Granny to Amanda (Brandon) Noland of Spring Hill, TN; Jailynna Synder of Henderson; Macey (Walker) Jewell of Grandview, IN; Melissa (Adam) McCormick of Cairo; Stephen (Alex) Payne of Union County, and Sally Steffens of Evansville, IN. Vera was also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Vera wished to be cremated. Cremation is being handled by Simple Cremation. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
