Donald A. Roberts, age 78, of Robards, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025. Don was preceded in death by Emmett and Barbara Wilhoit. Born on May 5, 1947, Don was a proud graduate of Purdue University and a lifelong fan of Boilermaker sports. His love for Purdue athletics was matched only by his devotion to his family and his passion for good food and classic television. Whether cheering on his favorite teams, watching cooking shows, or enjoying time with his loved ones, Don brought warmth, laughter, and a strong sense of loyalty to every moment.
Don dedicated his professional life to serving others through his work at the Evansville State Mental Hospital, where he made a lasting impact through his commitment and compassion.
He is survived by his sons, Tim (Mia) of Indiana, and Doug (Tara) of Kentucky; and his daughter, Hannah of Oregon. Don was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and a beloved great-grandfather to six. He is also survived by his three sisters—Diana Kaul of Ohio, and Donna and Darlene Wilhoit of Indiana—as well as two nieces.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Hummingbird Hall, 1040 Market Street, Henderson, KY. Lunch will be provided, and all who knew and loved Don are welcome to join in remembering and honoring his life.
Don will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, and the deep love he had for his family and friends.

Don was at ESH when I started in 1988. Working with patients was a challenge. He could be a calming influence.

To the family of Don. I’m so sorry to hear of Don’s passing.I remember Don from working at the State Hospital. I didn’t work directly with Don, but i worked in the Canteen. Don would come in and get a drink, maybe a quick snack or lunch sandwich from time to time. He was always a pleasure to wait on and serve. Always so polite, friendly and courteous to everyone.

May cherished memories of Don carry you all through this sorrowful time.
