Joy (Smith) DeWig, 69, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the love of her family and her loyal dog, Lily, by her side.
Born on July 8, 1955, in Newburgh, Indiana, Joy brought warmth and love everywhere she went and to everyone she met. She lit up every room and opened her heart without hesitation, making sure anyone who walked through her doors felt loved, safe, and as though they belonged from the very start. Her kindness knew no bounds—if anyone ever needed anything at all, Joy was there with a full heart and a helping hand.
After graduating from Castle High School in 1973, Joy married the love of her life, Darrell DeWig, on September 26, 1980. Together, they raised four children: Terra, Nicole, Hannah, and Darrell Jr.
In her spare time, she loved being with her family at the lake, bowling, doing ceramics, playing Bunco with her late mother-in-law, spending time with her dogs, and being a world-class Maw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Derrell DeWig; her parents, Bruce and Joyce (Chism) Smith; her brothers, Robert “Pokey” Smith, Terry Smith, and Bruce Smith Jr.
She is survived by her daughters: Terra Fellers, Nicole McReynolds (Jay), and Hannah Salts (Anthony); her step-son, Darrell DeWig (Bertha); her grandchildren: Jake Moseley, Brooke Matthews, Sieara Moseley, Paighton Fellers, Colin McReynolds, Taylor Siscel, Bram Stock, Carol McReynolds, Sophie McReynolds, and Kennedy Salts; and her great-grandchildren: Luke, Dawson, Kimber, Easton, Remi, Memphis, Waverly, and Stella.
Joy is also survived by her siblings: Chris Howard, Susie Cuttridge, Kenny Chism, Jesse Smith, Gary Smith, Roger Smith, and Harry Smith, along with many other beloved family members and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. For more information, please contact the family.
